Okay, so Poodle and I have been keeping an old fashioned, paper-based journal of our travels over the past few years (called "Things we lenned while travelling", and you have to say that with a South African government employee accent, otherwise the "lenned" part won't make sense), and what we've "lenned" from this is:
1. Carting journals around can be heavy and tiresome.
2. Our handwriting, after a few wines and happy-hour drinks, goes to shit, and then we can't read what we wrote anyway.
3. We still have to spend a fortune sending text messages, etc, while we're away keeping family and friends updated, or else my mother will send out the police in search of us. And foreign police can be scary. My mother can also be scary if you don't obey her.
4. Most importantly, what's the point of travelling the world and living it up, if you can't rub this in other people's faces and make them jealous? Seriously, people need to know about all the amazingly cool stuff you're doing and hate you just a little bit, otherwise a lot of the fun goes out of it. Now, in the "olden days", this was achieved through forcing your nearest and dearest (or in my case: nearest and queerest), to come to your house and sit through 5 hours of slide shows. But I'm not into delayed gratification. When I want people to be envious, I want them to be envious NOW!
Ergo, a travel blog. Which we will update whenever we can so everyone knows what we're up to, and my mother doesn't make us send text messages daily. Okay Mom?
So this is my test post, and the first proper post will start when I get to Edinburgh in two weeks' time. Of course, in that case, it will just be "B's Most Excellent Adventures" because Poodle can't get leave and sleeping with his boss didn't help. But he'll be there for Scandinavia in December. Yippee!
